Description

What is Livial?

Livial is a medicine used for hormone replacement therapy (HRT). Livial tablets contain the active ingredient tibolone, which is a synthetic hormone that mimics the activity of the female sex hormones oestrogen and progesterone. These hormones play an important role in regulating women’s monthly cycles and are produced less and less as women age. These declining levels can cause distressing symptoms, especially around menopause. Livial helps balance hormone levels and in turn reduce menopausal symptoms.

What is it used for?

Livial is used to treat menopausal symptoms, including:

  • Hot flashes;
  • Night sweats;
  • Sleep disorders;
  • Dryness of mucous membranes (eyes, vagina);
  • Mood swings, nervousness, depression, irritability.

In some cases, Livial is also prescribed to prevent osteoporosis in the years after menopause. Livial is particularly suitable for women experiencing a natural menopause who have not had a period in more than 12 months, and for women who have had their ovaries removed. If you are in menopause but are still having periods, you may need to take a different hormone replacement medicine.
